The Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra is honoured to announce its participation in the 14th Festival Culturel International de Musique Symphonique, scheduled to take place in Algiers, Algeria, from the 17th to the 23rd of April. Musical groups from seventeen countries from all over the world will be taking part in this festival and Mzansi Philharmonic is very proud to have an ensemble from our Orchestra performing at a concert on Saturday, the 19th of April.

In this concert they will be presenting a programme that features a distinguished group of South African artists including Siphokazi Maphumulo (Soprano), Megan-Geoffrey Prins (Piano) and the Odeion String Quartet featuring Samantha Durrant, Sharon de Kock, Jean-Louise Moolman and Anmari van der Westhuizen.

Reflecting on this international engagement, Bongani Tembe, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra, said, “We are delighted to be utlising this international platform – the 14th Festival Culturel International de Musique Symphonique – to showcase South African composers and South African musical heritage. Our participation in the Festival not only elevates South Africa’s presence on the global stage but also fosters meaningful cultural exchanges, enriching the tapestry of international musical discourse.”

In addition to featuring South African performers, the programme will also present music written by South African composers. The concert opens with Mokale Koapeng’s Komeng and an aria from Mzilikazi Khumalo’s Princess Magogo. Further works include Bongani Ndodana-Breen’s Safika – Three Tales of African Migration for Piano Quintet, Hendrik Hofmeyr’s Of Darkness and the Heart for Soprano and String Quartet and Arthur Feder’s String Quartet.

This performance underscores the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra’s commitment to showcasing South Africa’s rich musical heritage and fostering cultural exchange on international platforms.
