Mzansi Phil in Algeria: 14th Festival Culturel International de Musique Symphonique

The Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra was honoured to participate in the 14th Festival Culturel International de Musique Symphonique, held in Algiers, Algeria, from the 17th to the 23rd of April. Musical groups from seventeen countries across the globe took part in this renowned festival, and Mzansi Philharmonic was proud to have an ensemble from the Orchestra perform in a featured concert on Saturday, the 19th of April.

Our Cape Town audiences experienced sheer musical brilliance by Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra, South Africa’s renowned national orchestra that graced the presidential inauguration in 2024 with their performance. We were captivated by the nation’s top orchestral musicians as they brought to life the enchanting symphony, Scheherezade, by Rimsky-Korsakov and the iconic “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. The third concert of the national tour was presented at the City Hall in Cape Town on Wednesday, 4 December 2024 at 19:30.

We were captivated by the nation’s top orchestral musicians as they brought to life the enchanting symphony, Scheherezade, by Rimsky-Korsakov and the iconic “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. The second concert of the national tour was presented at the Sand du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein on Sunday, 1 December at 15:00.

The first concert of the national tour was presented at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg on Thursday, 28 November at 19:30.

The Africa United Youth Orchestra (AUYO), led by American conductor William Eddins, made its Carnegie Hall debut on August 3, 2024, as part of Carnegie Hall’s World Orchestra Week (WOW). Bringing together extraordinary young musicians from across several African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. AUYO embodied Africa’s musical excellence, unity, and cultural innovation.
The program featured works by South African composers: Michael Mosoeu Moerane’s Fatše La Heso (My Country), Mzilikazi Khumalo’s uShaka KaSenzagakhona (a dramatic work about the legendary King of the Zulus) and Princess Magogo (the first Zulu opera) sung by South African soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, and Bongani Ndodana-Breen’s Three Orchestral Songs on Poems of Ingrid Jonker, alongside Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.”
This milestone performance underscored AUYO’s mission to foster international cultural exchange and highlight Africa’s rich orchestral talent.

The Africa United Youth Orchestra (AUYO), led by American conductor William Eddins, made its world debut on July 28, 2024, at UNISA’s ZK Matthews Great Hall in preparation for their part in Carnegie Hall’s World Orchestra Week (WOW).
